A historian with a passion for communicating the past
Born and raised near Swansea in south Wales, I grew up surrounded by History. I loved visiting castles and other historical sites and developed a fascination with the past. After studying History as an undergraduate at Cambridge University, I completed a Masters in Historic Conservation at Oxford Brookes University. I then worked as a research assistant at the College of Arms, honing my skills in genealogical research. I also worked as a historic buildings consultant, researching the history of buildings and heritage assets and completing planning applications for changes to listed buildings. All of this research activity took me back to History full time and I did my PhD in History at Bangor University. I went on to research posts at the Institute of Historical Research and The Queen's College, Oxford, before becoming a freelance historian, author, and public speaker.
My first book traces the history of a Welsh gentry family from the fourteenth century to eighteenth century and covers the myriad themes present in British history over this period, including the Reformation, the reigns of the Tudors and Stuarts, the English Civil Wars, the wars of religion in Europe, and the developing British colonies in the Atlantic world.
